Be humble, be hungry. And always be the hardest worker in the room
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (BCom), majoring in finance. Aside from that, I have 6 years’ experience in investment sales. Prior to joining Cytonn I worked for Genghis Capital Ltd. as a Senior Financial Advisor and team leader. I was also part of the first sales team for the Unit Trust department. Some of the skills I have gained throughout my career include portfolio management, financial planning, investment banking, financial advisory, and an understanding of financial markets and capital markets.
I am passionate about sales and investments. I keep abreast of what is happening in the real estate and financial markets. I am client focused and always strive to deliver to promise. I believe these make me better at my job.
I joined Cytonn after applying for a unit manager position I saw advertised on a site called Latest Kenyan Jobs. At the time, I was looking for growth and a fresh start. The rest, as they say, is history.
My daily work includes formulating marketing, sales and distribution channels for the company as well as managing the distribution process. I also head a sales and distribution team, alongside other distribution managers who oversee several units. In addition, I coordinate and supervise sales efforts and participate in the development of the marketing plans, budgets and pricing for Cytonn products. I also participate in the development of investment products that meet client needs.
To be able to do all this, I need to be able to build, maintain and strengthen good public relations with existing clients, investors, corporate companies, the business community, professionals, high net worth clients and government agencies. To carry this out, I’ve had to develop effective communication, negotiation, financial planning, and financial markets skills.
I have faced some challenges during my work here but these have built me. The most recent one was having to relocate to Nakuru to set up the Central Rift and Western Region offices. It was a new region and I had to prospect for new clients in a new environment. I also had to recruit financial advisors for the new branches. It was a good challenge for me and broadened my prospecting horizon. The fact that I have been able to grow financial advisors from trainees to managers makes this job worthwhile.
Cytonn is all about hard work and results. You must be willing to give it your all. The growth opportunities are immense as long as you are a performer.
