Cytonn Foundation held its 4th training session for Cytonn e-Hub Season 3, on the 8th of September, 2018. The topic of discussion was “The Legal Aspects to Consider When Starting and Running a Business”. Patricia Wanjama, Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Cytonn Investments led the discussion on several areas of legal concern such as; dispute resolution, how to choose a legal advisor, business compliance measures, intellectual property and types of contracts. Present during the discussion was Holliness Lumbi, Legal Analyst at Cytonn Investments, Evelyne Mwachinda and Annette Kasande of Taibjee & Bhalla Advocates.

Among key talking points in the session were the basic legal requirements set up by the government for start-ups, and the factors that the entrepreneurs should consider when on boarding an investor. A number of the entrepreneurs had major interests on legal risks facing their businesses, as well as how to avoid them. They also noted that the laws and legislation keep changing across all jurisdictions, and they thus sought to know how they would improve their businesses’ operations by keeping up with the changes which they were taken through by Annette Kasande of Taibjee & Bhalla Advocates.

Participants were also interested in the registration process of the business, as most of them had faced challenges in the process.

Drawing lessons from Cytonn’s success story, Ms. Patricia Wanjama, who is the Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Cytonn Investments, challenged entrepreneurs to consider themselves and their interests the least if they would like to succeed.

Cytonn eHub Season 3 continues on Saturday 15th September 2018, with Ms. Stephanie Nguku, Founder and Lead Consultant at Upscale Consulting taking participants through the topic, “Sourcing for Capital and Overcoming Capital Challenges.”
