The Cytonn e-Hub Season 2 concluded its last session of the season this week. The topic for the session was, ‘Attracting and Retaining the Best People’. It was facilitated by David Kyalo, the co-founder and managing partner at Koncepts & Events Ltd, an events planning company.

“If you want people to work for you, make them feel appreciated,” David said to start off the session. He explained that people will always work better if they feel appreciated. He advised that in order to manage staff effectively, one needs to first point out their good traits then point out the negatives and encourage them to improve. “Make people feel that it’s an honour to work for you,” he summarized.

To cultivate loyalty in a company, David emphasized on the value of ensuring that staff own and feel attached to the objectives of the company. “Ensuring staff are on the same page, does not mean that you bully them, rather, ensure you give them autonomy,” David clarified. He also explained the importance of having a common objective when building partnerships in business.

David also elaborated on the relationships between employees and employers. “Friendship is essential to business, but there is a thin line between friendship and sabotage,” he explained. He insisted that employers need to remember their core business and ensure that they stay in control and do not let their employees boss them.

The Cytonn e-Hub season 2 participants will graduate on Thursday, 23rd November, during the Cytonn e-Hub Investors Forum.
