Cytonn Investments held their annual Investment Analyst & Investors Open Day on 19th July 2018 at the Intercontinental Hotel. The forum sought to educate the market on our structured finance business model and our operating structure.

Speaking during the event, Edwin H. Dande, Chief Executive Officer at Cytonn Investments, highlighted the underlying reason behind the start of Cytonn, “Everybody does real estate but very few develop real estate at the interest of the client as opposed to individual interest.” “We came together to form Cytonn with the goal of raising money from our clients and deploying it primarily in real estate, based solely on our intellectual capacity and ability to execute,” he concluded.

Patricia N. Wanjama, Head of Legal and Company Secretary, took the attendees through Cytonn’s corporate governance structure, noting that, “At Cytonn, we are well guided by a board put in place to ensure that the clients’ interest is protected at all times.”

Elizabeth N. Nkukuu, CFA, Cytonn’s Chief Investment Officer, shared the reason behind establishing Cytonn in the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) by noting that, “We decided to start home as this is where we understand and are able to create relationships. In 2018, the region’s growth which was at 4.7%, relatively higher than the global growth of 2.0%, and this is evidence of the region’s high growth capacity. To ensure a sustained regional growth, brands should be keen to create products that rings home with our people, and that’s essentially why Cytonn exists.”

Benjamin Ikenye, Business Manager, Cytonn Education Services’ Business Manager, informed the attendees the reason behind Cytonn’s venture into the education sector by emphasizing that, “Education is a natural progression for Cytonn, as it is in a real estate related field. As a sign of our commitment to providing quality education, the Cytonn College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship established its first campus located at Kaunda Street and is already admitting students. We not only prepare professionals for the job market but also have in place an incubation centre whereby students learn the basic skills of running a business. Graduates will also have practical experience in areas they are studying, such as software development. Top graduates of Cytonn College are also guaranteed internship and employment opportunities by the Cytonn Group.”

The investors and analysts present also got an opportunity to seek clarity on any issues they had around the firm’s activities through an interactive Q&A session moderated by business journalist, Bonney Tunya.
